THE WORD OF GOD
I.
Introduction
There are two Greek words in the New Testament
that are translated "Word".
They are Logos and Rhema.
Logos refers to the entire Bible, the written Word, whereas
Rhema refers to the specific spoken word of God for the situation.
It is important to know which form, rhema or logos, is
being used in specific scriptures.
There is a need for both rhema and logos in our lives.
II. Rhema
Rhema is necessary because it provides the
precise word that we need for the specific situation we are in
(Acts
18:9 - 11). Here God spoke
rhema to Paul to give him comfort, but Paul taught logos.
The word 'rhema' is used approximately 65 times in the
new testament. Here are a few of those scriptures.
Matt.
4:4, Rom 10:17, John 6:63, John 15:7, John 8:47, I Peter 1:25.
Oftentimes when the Word of God is spoken
of it is in reference to Logos.
Logos, the written Word, is necessary because it gives
us an absolute standard against which to measure all truth.
It is a safeguard to keep us from error and our instruction
manual for life.
