JESUS CHRIST

 

  1. Who is He?

1.  The image of God, God incarnate, or God in the flesh (Heb. 1:1-3; 2 Cor. 4:4;

I Tim. 3:16; Col. 1:15)

2.  The Word of God (John 1:1-3, 14)

3.  The sustainer of all things (Heb. 1:3)

4.  The creator and maker of all things (Col. 1:16; I Cor.8:6)

  1. The humanity of Jesus can be seen in

1.  His human birth (Matt 1:1; Gal. 4:4; Rom. 1:3;

2.  He was a man with flesh (I Tim 2:5; Rom. 8:3; Phil. 2:7-8)

3.  He grew naturally (Luke 2:40)

4.  He showed sorrow (Matt. 26:37)

5.  He got hungry (Luke 4:2)

6.  He grew weary (John 4:6)

7.  He was tempted (Heb. 4:15; Matt. 4:1-11; I John 2:16) 

  1. The deity of Jesus can be seen in

1.  He is called God by God the Father (Heb. 1:8)

2.  He is one with the Father (John 10:30, 38; John 14:10; John 17:11, 22;

John 16:15

3.      He is called God by the Apostle John (John 1:1, 14)

4.      He is called God by the Apostle Thomas (John 20:28)

5.      He claimed to be God in that he was with the Father before creation

(John 17:5) and that he was before Abraham (John 8:51-59)

6.      He received worship and only God is to be worshipped (Matt. 14:33)

7.      He forgives sins and only God can forgive sins (Mark 2:5-11)

8.      He claimed to have “all power” in Heaven and in Earth.  Only God has all power (Matt. 28:18)

9.      He is the sustainer of all things (Heb. 1:3)

10.  He is the creator and maker of all things (Col. 1:16; I Cor. 8:6)

  1. Why did Jesus come?
    1. To save the world (John 3:16-17; Rom. 5:8; I John 3:5; Luke 2:11; Luke 19: 10)
    1. He became man’s substitute (Is. 53:5; II Cor. 5:21)
    2. To redeem us from the curse of the Law (Gal. 3:13-14) [James 2:10; Deut. 28]
    3. To bring us back into fellowship with God (I Pet. 3:18; Heb. 2:9; Gal. 1:4;  Tit. 2:14)
    4. To destroy the works of Satan (I John 3:8; Col. 2:15; Heb. 2:14-15) 
  1. What does Jesus do now?
    1. He makes intercession for us (Rom. 8:34)
    2. He is our High Priest (Heb. 2:17-18; Heb. 3:1-2; Heb. 4:14-16) [A high priest represents the people to God]
    3. He is the source of our faith (Heb. 12:1-2; Rom 10:17)
    4. He is our mediator (I Tim. 2:5) [A mediator acts as a go between with the goal of establishing peace]
    5. He is our advocate (I John 2:1) [An advocate is one who pleads another’s cause, like an attorney]
    6. He is our nourishment (John 6:35)
    7. He is our source of truth (John (6:67-68)
    8. He is our only savior (Acts 4:12)
    9. He is our only foundation (I Cor. 3:11)
    10. He is the only way to the Father (John 14:6)
    11. He is God’s plan for saving man (Rom. 10:9-10)
