CHRISTIANS WHO ARE WE?

Many Christians have not yet come to realize their importance to God.  Many still see themselves as poor, unworthy, sinners, unfit to ask God for anything or to come into His presence.  It is true that by our own natural flesh and bones we were not more than that.  But through the love and mercy of God, and by the shed blood of Jesus we have become much more than that.  If we as Christians are going to live victoriously on this earth, we must begin to see ourselves as God sees us.  Our image of ourselves must be based on God’s image of us as recorded in His Word.

I.                    Who can truthfully be called a Christian?

2.      All who call themselves Christians are not truly living as followers of Christ.  In the above passage Paul was not accepted by the apostles as a Christian until Barnabas came forth and stood with him.  Later when Paul’s life style was that of one professing Christianity, Paul was accepted as a Christian based on his own lifestyle.

III.               Exhortation

Section II is only a partial list of the titles or positions which God has bestowed upon or given to the believer.  The Bible warns that knowledge puffs up, or makes one become proud.  It is important that we see ourselves as God sees us, as portrayed in His Word.  However, it is essential that we always bare in mind that apart from the blood of Christ we are as filthy rags.  We must never think that we are important to God because of who we are fleshly, our position in life, color, financial or social status, or any other such reason.  We must always remember that our sufficiency is of God (II Cor. 3:5) and that without Christ we are and can do nothing (John 15:5).  Finally we are told in II Peter 1:2-4, that we have been given all things that pertain to life and godliness through the knowledge of Christ and the Word.  It is up to us to use these gifts and apply this knowledge.  Remember that God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us (Eph. 3:20-21).  Christians let’s be who God says we are.
